Dear Drama Club!

2010 is coming to an end! However, 2011 is coming REAL soon! So you are ready for the challenges next year, especially SYF! Lets put in all our efforts and get the award that we always wanted!

Now about next year's sessions.

Sessions would now be on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS, from 3.30pm to 6.30 pm. Session will start on 4th Jan. It would be a short one, so its from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

Hey Drama Club!

Session this Thursday would be from 2pm - 5pm. Please be reminded to bring your scripts. Actors who acted in the Happy Prince would have to practice their lines and you have to show it to Ms Jo during the session in the Dec holidays. Refer to the following for the sessions during the holidays.

15/11/10 to 19/11/10 - SFY camp (only for the cast members and some of the backstage crew.)

the holidays are over and we're getting nearer to Nomad 2010. The script is out and soon we will have to start on props. Indeed this production is not going to be an easy one, but we cannot deny that it is going to be a good one. Dear drama club,
Indeed it has been some time since the blog have been updated- apologies. In which the committee has decided to give the blog a fresh clean simple look instead. (: please note that all the important dates are to the left hand side of the blog and the tagboard is at the bottom of the page due to some technical reasons.

On the side note, we hope that none of you will give up now. It might be the start of a very though journey, but without hardwork, you don't expect a good outcome do you? As the saying goes " Hardwork pays off well". Also, your 2009-2010 Committee has every bit of faith that you guys would be able to pull of Nomad and many other performances to come well. And yes, that includes the secondary ones who we see great potential in. So please don't disappoint your teachers, committee members and seniors.

We hope to see the club SHINE, even after the 4E/5N stepdown this april.

Hey Drama members! Just to let you know Ms Joanne (the one who came for the auditions) will be our permanent instructor! So yeah, I'm sure all of us will have a great time with her!

On the side note, we will be having 12 Sec 1 students NEXT MONDAY (not this thusday) for their 1-month trial in Drama. So yeah, do be welcoming and hyper so that they will be attracted to our club, and hopefully will choose to stay in Drama Club after the 1-month trial!

Also... Drama Club is proud to announce that we have our very own BANNER- painted in one afternoon by Syazana, Adlin, Nurul, Hui Xian, Alice, Syairah, Sue Lyanna and Nadia with Mdm Goh's expertise. It was a rather impromptu decision to have our own banner overlooking the parade square but it sure looks great.

I suppose our dear president, Amelia, has posted something regarding the theme - Youth Olympic Games 2010. Well, just to add on, we have some task for you all to do:

Please do research such as story lines, synopses, drama scripts, plays etc. regarding YOG and send it to amkssdrama@hotmail.co.uk . At least once school re-opens and Drama starts, we have something to start off and share with Ms Amy.

Btw, NOMAD stands for - "Night of Music, Arts and Dance".

Hey Drama Club

I figured that all of us are either clueless or bored with the YOG theme so... here's a little more information (which i copied from somewhere)

Singapore will be hosting the first Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from 14 to 26 August 2010, receiving some 3600 young athletes between 14 and 18 years of age from 205 National Olympic Committees.

They would be 800* officials, 205 National Olympic Committees, 800* media representatives, 20,000* local and international volunteers, 500,000* spectators (* Estimated numbers). They will compete in 26 sports and take part in Culture and Education Programme (CEP).

The YOG is an event balancing sports, culture and education. The CEP is hence an integral part of the YOG. In line with the YOG’s mission to educate and engage young athletes, inspiring them to play an active role in their communities, the CEP aims for the athletes to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.

And... the last bit:
Spirit of Youth – the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games logo (above) – celebrates Singapore 2010 in an adventurous, open and fun way. It evokes the Singaporean sense of confidence and progress. A red flame represents the passion to learn and the power of positive thinking. A purple star symbolises excellence and the pride of representing one’s nation. A crescent reflects dynamic youth, full of promise. The active appearance of the “Singapore 2010” word mark comprises individual and unique characters that signify harmony among the diverse participants. On a more serious, long note ...

Ever wondered what makes a good leader?

Well... believe it or not but actually, whatever your Social Studies textbook says about leadership is actually really true and useful. So... here are a few things from various people on what makes a good leader.

A leader is someone who:

1. Delegates

2. Puts others before self

3. Manages different committments well

4. Puts oneself in others' shoes

5. *whose* Every action comes from the heart

6. is willing to come back and help, no matter if he/she has graduated

7. Has initiative and is responsible

8. Thinks before acting

9. Tries first instead of giving up easily

10. Believes in what she/he is doing

*and many more...*

Lastly, being a good leader is something that everyone has the potential to become. It does not matter if you have a leadership position now or not because, actions still speaks louder than words. So... having a position is nothing if you do not prove to others that you are indeed worthy of such a title. No matter what, always give life your best shot! :)

Yay AMKsian Showcase is over! Even though it wasn't a fantastic show with a large audience, it was still a job well done and definitely a learning experience for the Secondary 1's. Many thanks goes to all who have helped make yesterday a success, as well as those who made great efforts in the Dream Studio painting! Safe trip for those who are going overseas and for the rest, do enjoy your holidays and have fun =)

Thank you for turning up regularly and putting in your best effort :D

Many things to talk about.

1stly, Selamat Hari Raya Haji to all our dearest muslim members :D , enjoy yourself, but please do not consume too much spicy, fried food and end up with a sore throat just before Open House. (2nd part is applicable to all other members!)

2ndly, we have come so far in these few months of practice and hardwork! So let us do our very best and give it our all for Saturday, the main and most important performance. Stay energized and have fun :D

*All to report by 8am to school, Cast do not have to change into your costumes, but Ushers please report in your attire.

Ushers:
ALL Non-cast members and our dear eagles. :D
Attire ( except for eagles duhh) : Drama Tee together with school skirts (for girls) or school pants (for guys). Those without Drama Tee to wear either a black or white tee.
Ushers will undergo a short briefing in the morning as to what they are supposed to do.

Cast members:
All of you will take turns in your shifts. In the below schedule, we have listed specfically the shifts and the member playing the role of the emperor for that particular shift. If we have not specified the name of the emperor, it will be the same as in the "shifts table", also included below.
Please take care of your own props and costumes and try not to dirty the costumes, especially if you're sharing the costume. Rmb to bring along your hair clips, safety pins, black socks basically anything needed. Have energy and stay focused! Get your message across to your audience and have fun!

We just want to say that we are very proud of your performance today. :D
For Cast:
We're happy to see that the energy level of everyone today is HIGH. BUT, of course, it can be higher :D
Happy at the way all of you helped one another today. regardless of who we assigned the tasks to.
Glad of the fact that all of you put in your very best and went through so many practices, even though we did hear a few grumbles xD

Today would have been a greater success if all of you focused more! We will still be sending people to distract all of you during performance :D but as they say, a focused performer does not get distracted easily. We hope that one day, you all will still be able to focus even if we put our dearest teachers, dancing the hawaiin dance, in front of you xDD

For Painting Executives:
We have officially reached a conclusion: GUYS CANNOT PAINT (except exceptions like Wei Sheng and half of Michael *the other half was left at the NE corner*). Still, we appreciate the help all of you gave and the comments. Yup, we are going to finish painting ON TIME :)

In conclusion:
kudos to the Painting Execs!
BTW.
All of us are facing the same dateline : SATURDAY
Therefore we hope that we will face Saturday TOGETHER as ONE Drama Club and that every single session will be a success and be veryvery productive :D All the best Drama Club! Let us ALL work together towards our goals :D

Thoughts and reflections on 16 nov session

Dear one and all,

Indeed we are please to see improvement after the 1-1 session. Keep it up (: No hard feelings! Remember the session aims to help you improve, and to identify your strengths and weaknesses. For those who did not come today, you will be dealt with in subsequent sessions.
Please note: Apologies to Eddy who have to postpone his session due to some unforseen circumstances and Hong Kiat needs another round.

However, we are extremely disapoointed in what happened during the painting session where inappropriate doodles are being drawn on the wall. We hope you know the grave consequences if it was found out by any teacher - the Drama Committee will be the one they will come after. Yes, a joke may be a joke but there must be a certain limit.

We sincerely hope that you would reflect on what you've did, and do know that we do not have any hard feelings for you all, and hope it is vice versa.

Remember this well, we have a name to carry - Drama Club and every single one of us have the responsibility to let this name shine and not look down on. Concluding, we hope that this would never happen again.

Overall, great improvement guys! Continue to work hard for AMKsian showcase. 12 more days!

Secondly, there are some pictures from yesterdays' session to share:

I thought it was...well, amusing at certain parts of the play, and it seems like it invovles a lot of movement segments as well - it was visually nice though, and it's great to see the juniors in action! Yup, so do put up a nice show when the Committee does come down next week. I'm sure Wen Xiu and myself enjoyed watching the rehearsal yesterday, it was a good break =D And yes, we saw the Drama Board (the one outside the Council Room) and it was really nicely done up, thanks to the props people who helped out in it, looks much better now =)

Hey Drama peeps!

Hopefully you've enjoyed the Mid-Autumn Play (MAP) so far :P Let's just take the cancellation of the arrival of the Chinatown Committee to be a blessing in disguise. We can further polish up our play and bring the play to a new level! :D

So when they come, act well, and have fun! Remember to take note of the new changes, especially the first scene... Again, ENJOY! :D

Oh oh and of course, hopefully our "substitute judges" - Felicia and Wen Xiu enjoyed our play, and the random humour that "popped out" occassionally :)

It shall be a great performance exposure (espeacially for the juniors taking part), and we hope you'll bring back with you some great learning experiences! Your checklist of things to bring with you for the competition: Enjoyment, energy and the AMKSS Drama Spirit!

Thief of Time

Psst! What is the Drama Club teacher doing? 0.o

Hey all! Today was Drama Club’s first official outing to watch a play ('Thief of Time') as a group… One word says it all “NOISY!” Haha, who knew that wearing our school uniform would attract the attention of the cameramen who started “stalking” us? Poor Ms Lim was the only white dot amongst the green!

Learning points:
1) You do not have to rush your lines when you are doing a scene on the phone, just speak normally. After all, the stage is yours!
2) Good coordination is needed to pull off scenes which are in sync with the music.
3) When you mess up certain dance movements/actions, just continue as though nothing has happened. Otherwise, it would be a dead giveaway.
4) Lastly, no matter what you do, step up on the stage with confidence!

Haha, I know that words are easier said than done but I believe that all of us have a inner actor/actress just brimming with confidence. We just need a little time and encouragement.

Okay, now for admin matters! Please be reminded once again, that there would be a session on the 21st of July from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Dream Studio. If you would be late (hopefully not), please tell one of the Comm. Members. Also, if you can find songs pertaining to the Mid-Autumn Festival play, please save either the link or the song in a thumbdrive and bring it on Wednesday.

Drama sessions may increase to 3 times a week. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, to accomodate the Mid-Autumn's Festival performance :)

Mid Autumns Festival performance has been CONFIRMED to be on the 19th of September. Script would be finalised asap.

Most of you have already gotten a consent form for the 18th July, so details are as follows:

It is COMPULSORY.
Please submit all consent forms to Ms Lim or slot it into her PIGEON-HOLE.
*for those who do not have Edusave, please bring the $7, on the 18th itself or pass it to Michael of class 35 (money to be enclosed in envelope).

Reflections

Hi all, a couple of us went down to ACJC for the SYF Preview today which showcased the Gold with Honours pieces. I'd say they really deserved it...and in comparison with ours, I think there a few learning points we can all take note of and improve upon. Here are some things to share:

1) Diction/articulation of words: Yes, the actors could speak really fluently with clarity, and most importantly - be understood by the audience. We'll need to work on our pronunciation in future, and each one of us will have to make it a conscious effort to speak properly as well.

2) Lines were spoken with feelings and understanding: I think that's a huge factor that contributed to their plays' success. The actors could really feel for their act, put in the correct emotions and therefore, connect to the audience. One of the school's plays almost left me in tears - yes, it was that touching. So, I guess that's something essential to work on in your rehearsals in future too.

3) Actors were responsive: Ms Amy has told us about it before...when you're doing co-acting (which is almost all the time), you have to react to what's happening around you so that you don't just stand there waiting for your turn to speak your lines. Observe on-screen actors, they always have reactions to fit the situation.

4) Big movements on stage: Actions have to be really big on stage - almost like magnified so that the audience can see clearly what exactly it is you're doing, or else, the effect doesn't turn out the way it's supposed to be!

5) Excellent energy and no inhibitions: The actors really threw themselves away by being someone else on stage. They gave it all that they could for their role and they always maintained energy whilst in character.

Basically, it was really impressive. Their excellent stage sets (simple but very effective props), nice sound effect timings, entertaining and unique storylines definitely made them a Gold with Honours...we have lots to learn from them.

Those who went (Wen Xiu, Amelia Goh, Melvin and Li Zhong) may also like to share their thoughts with the Club in future? I made them take note of learning points heehee...

1. Drama Sessions
*Drama is CANCELLED till further notice in view of H1N1 (excluding the NCPC group)
*Once session resumes, sessions will be on wednesdays and thursdays
(in view that majority prefers these dates)

Teachers don't lie when they say Term 3 is a busy 10-weeks ordeal. Especially for Sec 3s, who will have to do class drama and Mid-Autumn festival/NCPC drama as well. Don't give up! Strive for the best in both plays ok? HCL pupils, good luck for CL O Level Oral + Listening Compre! Ok this is so random lol...

Hey all! School has began again... and we are all caught up in the rush of completing the piles of homework. Haha, all those temporary measures to reduce the spread of H1N1 (if it ever spreads) are probably driving us crazy!

Reminder: Please note that there would be no Drama Sessions for this week except for those involved in the Crime Prevention group. All the best for the upcoming rehersals and the actual performance! :)
